Spotlight on Spain, Western Europe & the Mediterranean basin

Since its inception, Viabo has been devoted to promoting Spain’s rich historical and cultural heritage, as well as that of Western Europe and, by extension, the Mediterranean basin.

When it comes to our Spanish tours in particular, our footprint is focused on the ancient former Kingdoms of Castile, Leon, and Aragon (largely because of their crucial role in the historical shaping of Spain) and the Basque country. We also extend into the beautiful swathes of neighboring Galicia and Asturias, as well as into Portugal.

Our driving principles

We are driven by the principles of sustainability and of fostering tourism in these unique territories through expert guidance by highly qualified professionals. In short, we’re on a constant quest to elevate tourism by offering our customers extraordinarily off-the-beaten-path experiences as recounted and guided by our subject matter experts.

We uphold our driving principles by always keeping our customers’ needs at the forefront and we are forever in the pursuit of delivering customer service that goes above and beyond.

There is nothing mass market and catalogue-driven about Viabo’s offerings. We’re a niche travel company looking for astute, passionate travelers such as yourselves to fill our tour design boards with your ambitious requests.

Our customers appreciate leisure, quality, exclusivity, and culture in a broad sense. More often than not they are small groups (approximately 8 to 16 people) or individuals that trust us to place them with like-minded travelers. We do occasionally get requests for larger-scale tours from academic institutions, societies, foundations and corporates offering professional incentives, and we will happily meet these requests as well.

Viabo’s passionate founders

Viabo’s founders are a team of senior, learned professionals with a shared passion for promoting the many historic wonders that they have been privileged to be exposed to throughout their careers. They are equally passionate about helping to develop and sustain local economies, and to create sustainable tourism career opportunities for professionals in all related fields.

In many ways, their academic expertise, professional connections and vested interest in the promotion of Iberia’s rich cultural and architectural history leave them best-placed to weave together a tour showcasing the most extraordinary sites, using sought-after service providers with special expertise and offering a way of traveling that is unique and considered.

Our valued partners

We give special mention to one of our most valued partners, the Fundación Santa Maria la Real del Patrimonio Histórico (The Royal & Historic Heritage Foundation of Saint Mary), whose professionals are at the very heart of Viabo’s operations.

The Foundation is an award-winning non-profit cultural organization which is very active in sustainable cultural tourism and historical heritage education. It also boasts a long record of historical heritage asset conservation, fostering employment for young people, publishing books and other materials, and teaching courses on history, art and architecture.

A few years ago, the existing Fundación Santa María la Real merged with the Castile and Leon Historic Heritage Foundation, marvelously combining their goals, teams, strengths, and capacities. The latter was responsible for the restoration and conservation of the historic buildings in these former Kingdoms, under the patronage of the Regional Government of Castile and Leon. It was also responsible for introducing these assets to the wider public, producing information and didactic materials, and supporting the development of cultural tourism as a whole.
